JA Waterloo Region’s new summer camp, Fish Tank, is an introduction to all things entrepreneurship! Fish Tank offers campers (age 9-13) an exciting approach to learning about basic business skills. With the guidance and support of JA camp counselors and special guests, campers are taken through each step of creating their very own business.
Over the course of a camp week (Monday-Friday), campers will work in groups as their very own small company. They will choose a product to make and name as their own from a list of crafty samples, using items from the “JA Shop”. Campers will take part in various activities (i.e. team building, production, marketing, working with a budget, how to pitch a product) and downtown tours (i.e. Accelerator Centre, Civilian Screen Printing), to learn the process involved in manufacturing or producing a product. They will learn about the challenges of running a small business.
On Friday, the group will take a walking tour a downtown charity to learn about the importance of Social Entrepreneurship and giving back to the community (i.e. The Working Centre and its social enterprises). The week will include a sales blitz on Thursday where campers promote and sell the handmade products they have worked on during the week to consumers in downtown Kitchener (at Communitech), Cambridge (at City Hall) or Brantford (at Laurier Campus); taking home their profits at the end!
Fish Tank will shape your young fish into business conscious sharks!
