World of Choice is an event aimed at helping youth in grades 10-12 explore career choices and learn from local career mentors in a round table format career forum. Students will be exposed to a variety of career possibilities, the training and education required, and they will get a glimpse into what a typical day looks like on the job. Students will leave this forum excited about their future, and better equipped to meet the challenges of today’s working world. This event will inspire students to stay in school until they have acquired the knowledge, attitudes and skills to follow their chosen career path.
In this JA program, students will have the opportunity to become familiar with possible educational futures, while learning about and challenging myths about various careers. They will learn what job opportunities exist right in their community and be inspired by a range of mentors from a variety of industries.
The program is designed to help youth understand industry and labour market trends and become proactive and confident about a future career. Outcomes include:
The morning will open with a welcome address, after which students will then circulate through 5 sessions, led by career mentors, to learn how to achieve success in the mentor’s profession. Sessions are organized based off the participant’s preferences and mentor availability. Mentors will speak with 5 separate groups 4-6 students before the event concludes.
