Covering London, St. Thomas, Stratford, Strathroy, Tillsonburg JA (Junior Achievement) London and District Kicks off JA Company Program for Budding High School Business Entrepreneurs
Junior Achievement (JA) of London and District has kicked off its mainstay JA Company Program in venues across southwestern Ontario, launching an extensive experience that will see high school students develop into business entrepreneurs.
The JA Company Program, led by volunteers from the business community, brings teams of students together to create, build and manage a small business for 18 weeks. Students brainstorm and select a product or service, form a leadership team, produce the product or deliver the service, and, manage all aspects of the business, striving to make a profit.
“JA Company Program helps students learn to work together as a team, and develop self-confidence and leadership abilities,” said JA President and CEO Bev Robinson. “Students are led by mentors who help equip them with the knowledge and skills they need.”
JA is a charitable organization that is dedicated to teaching young people financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workplace readiness skills through experiential learning programs – including the Company Program - delivered by JA-trained volunteer mentors from the community. Thanks to the support of sponsors, the JA Company Program is offered to students free of charge.
JA London and District delivers programs throughout London, Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Perth, Huron, Grey and Bruce counties. Last year, JA successfully delivered 351 programs to almost 9,000 students in the area. In 2018-2019 year – the centennial celebration of JA worldwide – JA London and District plans to reach 10,000 students.
