About the 2020 Laureates
KYLE MACDONALD is a graduate of the Ivey School of Business at Western University. In 1987, she started Phoenix Interactive Design Inc. with two employees and entered the high-stakes world of fast-moving self-service software technology.
As the visionary and dynamic founder behind Phoenix, headquartered in London Ontario, Kyle grew her business to an international scale with offices in Mississauga ON, Charlotte NC, Edinburgh, Scotland and Sydney, Australia. After reaching global success with many of the world's largest banks as her clients, Kyle made the decision to sell Phoenix in 2015 to Diebold-Nixdorf, a large multi-national player and supplier to the banking sector. True to her entrepreneurial roots, Kyle quickly founded Harbour Grace Holdings Inc. that same year, and immediately became involved in multiple international business ventures. One such venture includes being a Strategic Investor and CEO of AIRIA Brands Inc., a leading, London-based, manufacturer of indoor ventilation and air purification systems under the well-known brand - LIFEBREATH.
Kyle's success in business rivals her philanthropic passion. Her desire to help improve the lives of those around her at local, provincial and national levels has never been stronger. Kyle's support of several Canadian military organizations has had a positive impact on the lives of our Veterans and their families, including those who suffer with Operation Stress Injury. Kyle has always been a strong advocate for higher education. The academic scholarships she supports at her former Toronto high school, Western University and Brescia College, help alleviate the financial burden young students face when seeking their post-secondary education goals. Most recently, Kyle has been a key supporter of the David Foster Foundation.
Brothers EWART AND EDWIN MCLAUGHLIN grew up on a farm north of Tillsonburg, Ontario. Their first joint business venture was the creation of "The Wedge Cheese House" in 1979 which specialized in retail food entrees. In 1984 Ewart and Edwin purchased their first industrial building. The 132,000 sq.ft. facility is located at 273 Ingersoll Avenue, Woodstock, Ontario and was the former Firestone Textiles plant.
Today between Ed and Ewart personally, E&E McLaughlin Ltd., and other partnerships, the brothers have grown an extensive warehousing and leasing business consisting of several million square feet under roof with various locations throughout Southwestern Ontario. The brothers are proud to be in business together with over 40 years' experience in exceeding customer expectations and creating lasting relationships.
