Clearpath Robotics announced as Business of the Year at the JA Business Spirit Awards

Kitchener, Ontario, November 6, 2014 – JA Waterloo Region’s annual Business Spirit Awards - presented by Economical Insurance - hosted over 300 guests as they acknowledged Clearpath Robotics with the Business of the Year Award.

Clearpath Robotics designs and engineers unmanned vehicle robotics and solutions to automate the world’s most dull, dirty and dangerous jobs. The Company serves robotics leaders in over 30 countries worldwide in academic, mining, military, agricultural and industrial markets. Clearpath was founded by four University of Waterloo grads in 2009. Within 18 months of inception the company became a leader in the unmanned vehicle robotics industry for research and development. Recognizing the value of future innovation, the Company proudly supports programs that facilitate growth within the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Mentorship Award: Community Music School of Waterloo Region

The Community Music School of Waterloo Region provides music lessons to youth in our community who would not otherwise have access to formal musical training. Through lessons offered by skilled teachers in a central location in downtown Kitchener, the CMSWR works to create an engaging and joyful space for individuals to grow, explore and connect through shared passion for the musical arts.

Entrepreneur of the Year Award: Wagepoint

Wagepoint has 500+ small business customers across North America – representing a variety of industry sectors, including technology, food services, and professional services. Wagepoint is revolutionizing the concept of payroll for online business by providing a simple to use, easy to understand online solution that employers can access from anywhere as long as they have access to the Internet.


Caring for Youth Award: Send‘em Off Smiling

Send’em Off Smiling (SOS) has been helping the local community for 20 years with donations from businesses and individual sponsors. SOS is 100% supported by volunteers. Their goal is to set children in need on a more hopeful path -- by outfitting them with some basic clothing and school supplies, intended to send’em off smiling on that first day of school each September. This year SOS sent over 950 local school children back to school with full backpacks that are specifically for each child.


Corporate Citizen Award: Libro Credit Union

Libro Credit Union is brand new, and fortunate to have a collective 70 year history of co-operative passion, agriculture and small business owners. Libro is driven by a social purpose – to build regional prosperity. They take pride in considering the impacts on the economy, environment and society. As a dedicated corporate citizen they make significant contributions to the community.

Marketing Innovation Award: Charcoal Group

The Charcoal Group has enlightened hospitality, world-class cuisine and independent places – all combined to create extraordinary experiences. They have an incredibly rare track record of almost 60 years of success in the hospitality industry. They have a belief that to remain innovative with their marketing strategy, they need to keep thinking ahead of the game.


Student Company Program Award: Swift Gift

The Student Company with the best overall results in the 2013-14 Sun Life Company Program was Swift Gift, sponsored and counselled by The C3 Group. President Will Jo accepted the award on behalf of his company. In addition to the awards ceremony guests learned about the Junior Achievement’s programs and its vital role in inspiring tomorrow’s entrepreneurs. Successful alumni entrepreneurs and youth currently in Company Program shared their experience and the role it played in their current and future success.
