Fanshawe College Student Intern Sparks JA Creative Team
LONDON, ON – JA (Junior Achievement) London and District is supporting experiential learning by hosting a Fanshawe College (FC) student in partnership with the School of Contemporary Media.
“A placement at JA enhances student learning by working with a dynamic team who are experts in communication, building relationships with community partners, strategic planning and managing programs,” said Bev Robinson, JA President and CEO.
Enrolled in the Public Relations-Corporate Communications graduate certificate program, Yasmine Didi of London joined the JA team with a strong interest in community relations and communication, and a passion for supporting non-profit organizations.
“I am thrilled with my placement at JA,” said Didi. “My heart is aligned with JA’s mission to inspire youth to succeed, and I share their values of doing work with honesty, integrity, and excellence.”
Fanshawe College programs offer many types of experiential learning opportunities.
“Through field placement, students are exposed to their program's field and the role of a graduate in this field,” said Jackie Westelaken, FC professor and program coordinator. “Under the direct supervision of a practitioner, the student observes and participates in the environment, and expands on assessment, self-evaluation, and communication skills.”
JA is a charitable organization that is dedicated to teaching young people financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workplace readiness skills through experiential learning programs. With the help of volunteers and mentors, JA delivers programs throughout London, Middlesex, Elgin, Oxford, Perth, Huron, Grey and Bruce counties.
