JA is attracting high school students to career ‘marketplace’ event in London on April 16

LONDON, ON – JA (Junior Achievement) of London and District will host World of Choices (WOC) for high school students from this region on April 16.

WOC provides time for students to talk with a wide variety of career mentors about future job opportunities. Mentors from the arts, finance, airline industry, sciences, law and more will be available to share their expertise with small groups of students as participants move from mentor table to table at the WOC event, sponsored by the RBC Foundation.

“This is a great way to provide students with a smorgasbord of career choices,” said Bev Robinson, JA President and CEO. “Students obtain first-hand knowledge from people in careers that can help them make important decisions about their future, and help them achieve their career goals.”

Students are invited from seven schools in the London region. The event will also feature a career marketplace with exhibits by mentors; Fanshawe College, University of Western Ontario and King’s College. In addition, there will be a presentation followed by Qs and As by a panel of experts: Nancy Sutherland, CEO, Sunshine Foundation; Terry Zavitz, President and Founder, Zavitz Insurance; David Billson, CEO and co-founder, rTraction Canada Inc; and, Brad Geddes, President and CEO, Zucora Home.

JA offers a variety of free financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship programs to elementary and secondary school students in the London region: over 9,000 students participated in JA programs here, delivered by trained volunteers last year. JA has set its sights on reaching more than 10,000 students in honour of JA Worldwide’s 100th anniversary in 2019.
